"Cannot praise enough"

About: Barnet Hospital

My daughter was admitted to the children's ward at Barnet after being seen at Chase Farm. The transfer was smooth with Orthopaedic doctors waiting for her arrival. Each and every member of staff we encountered was professional and went out of their way to be helpful, from the engineers who walked us back to A&E because we became lost to the housekeeper on the ward encouraging my daughter to make a food selection when she was quite depressed with being in a cast. By that point even I was tiring of the whole situation but a friendly arm rub by the same housekeeper was enough for me to put a brave face on for my daughter. At all times we felt welcome and I agree with a previous poster who compared it to a private hospital. I was extremely impressed with the educational facilities on the ward and again the relentless work of your teaching team. Their positivity and perserverance paid off when my reluctant and dare I say irritable child sat down and wrote a book with pictures describing her hospital visit. The nursing staff were absolutely fantastic, including the nurse who made a much needed cup of tea after our midnight arrival on the ward and made my daughter a bowl of cereals (with sugar - my daughter thinks they're incredible just for that alone) to the nurse who was there through everything from my tears after my daughter went into theatre through to teaching me how to dress her with a huge bulky cast. Although not often seen long enough to thank them (I know they are busy) the surgeons who worked so closely with the amazing staff at Chase Farm deserve a mention too. From before we left CF we knew exactly what was going to happen, we were fully informed and prepared and that was maintained throughout our stay. Finally the anaesthetists! If the NHS ever gets too much they can become comedians! Just when parents and children alike want to be crying they managed to make everyone laugh, even managing age appropriate humour! They definitely eased what should be quite an anxious time. My daughter felt safe and cared for at all times (as did I) Barnet Hospital I cannot praise you enough.
