My gran was admitted to ward 61 at GRI with a fractured pelvis after a fall. my gran was 81 although up until a year ago you would never have known. My gran became really unwell and last week it was clear that my gran was not going to leave ward 61. Over her last 4 days the ward had to put up with ALL my family literally moving in. We were treated really well and made comfortable. The nurses, even during busy times took the time to talk and make tea (Thank you Gareth...) and build relationships with my mum, auntie and granda. For this I will always be grateful and as a nurse myself I really appreciated it. I know they found great comfort in these relationships. I would like to thank Elaine for making me feel my gran was under good care from the very beginning. The ward picked up on things so quickly and I felt assured she was in the right place, I would also like to thank Leighann for putting up with me when stressed and tired and highly strung as well as a few other nurses that I am sorry I did not get their names, and I would like to thank Louise who took over on that first night shift and kept my gran comfortable and always, every single time say she was there if we needed anything, It was getting the 'hello' when you went in and knowing both my gran and granda by first name. Also Rebecca for especailly looking after my granda and listening to all his stories at 4 in the morning that made the biggest difference to my family and I cannot thank you all enough. Being nice is what really matters.
