"26+ weeks for a review and my pain is unbearable"

About: University Hospital Wishaw / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was diagnosed with a degenerative illness and since then see my consultant on a 6 monthly basis. My condition appears well managed on my medication but over the last approximately 9-12 months my mobility had declined quickly and I am in constant pain. When I attended the consultant they sent me for Xrays of my knee and hip as this is where my pain is, and they did not feel it was connected with my illness. From there I was referred to Orthopaedics. From then my mobility has declined further my pain is unbearable. I struggle even to move around my own house. I telephoned the Referral Management services around 3/4 weeks ago and was informed I had only be on the list 11. 5 weeks at this particular point, and I wouldn't hear anything for another 16+ weeks-this is only for an orthopaedic opinion, I am led to believe that after this I will then go back onto a waiting list for any treatment that may be necessary. I feel very disillusioned at present and feel that by the time I wait the 26 weeks + for a review and the possibility of the same following review I may well be off my feet all together, it seems unfair that whilst I have a degenerative condition that in time will affect my mobility and ability to function independently that something that potentially could be rectified should do so before my illness will.
