I visited 6 degrees counselling due to being unable to cope further with the loss of my mother and other issues that were ongoing ie unemployed husband and his depression.
From the start I felt very comfortable with my counsellor and happy to just blurt out my feelings to somebody who wasn't directly involved. She showed compassion, patience and helped me to look at my issues from a different perspective.
She gave me the contact details for ADS to self-refer for alcohol issues, which I did and saw my advisor there concurrently with seeing my counsellor.
He also gave me advice on how to reduce my alcohol intake and gave me a diary to enter up daily. I also went back to the gym by my own volition which is something I could not do before receiving the help from the 2 wonderful people in each of their services.
