"I was admitted to A&E ..."

About: Wexham Park Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I was admitted to A&E late at night following an appointment with the local out of hours GP. I was so impressed with the speed of treatment and the fact that the hospital was expecting my arrival. I could not have spent more than 10 minutes in A&E (where the staff were very helpful and friendly) when I was transferred to Ward 2 CDU. Here I was very quickly seen by a doctor and given a thorough examination. I spent the next 3 days on this ward and was very happy with my treatment, seeing my consultant twice on a week day and being able to see the on call team on the weekend which led to a speedy discharge. Any sudden difficulties such as sickness were dealt with in seconds and the ward nurses were very friendly throughout my stay telling me to come straight back if I has any pain. There was a good spirit on the ward and it made me very proud of our NHS.

What could be improved

Absolutely nothing.

Anything else?

I sometimes feel a great frustration at our societys willingness to critisize the NHS. Some people express frustration at long waiting times at A&E and my personal oppinion on this is that the more serious your illness and the higher your needs the quicker you will receive treatment... the whole point of the triage assessment. I have been in a situation where I have had to hide my shock at a fellow patient expressing disgust at having waited for four hours in the A&E waiting room with a stubbed toe! Our NHS is there for us when we need it and maybe some people need not abuse it.

I would have to say there is nowhere else I would lprefer to receive treatment and I am proud to call it my local hospital.
