"Recent visit to endoscopy department"

About: Fairfield General Hospital

Recently underwent a colonoscopy at Fairfield - five year screening.

The department has all been modernised since my last visit and I wanted to compliment the newly modelled department for its efficiency and prompt attention.

As you will appreciate, I was very tense given the nature of the procedure and all the staff were warm and welcoming.

The new system means that there were far fewer patients waiting - in fact the whole process was seamless with no waiting time to allow nerves to kick in.

After going through usual pre-procedure questions, straight through to consent room, where I was able to discuss my worries and concerns and was reassured that the doctor would be made aware of my request for as much pain relief and sedation possible.

Straight through to the changing rooms - and before I could open my book, I was prepared for sedation.

A very short wait and then I was accompanied down the corridor to be met by several lovely people.

Really impressed with the new set up - nice comfy bed to lie on.

Doctor was very reassuring, as were all the staff and as soon as I made them aware of discomfort they were attentive and did what they could to ensure I remained comfortable.

It matters so much that I felt supported throughout and meant I stayed calm throughout, in the knowledge that I would be responded to.

I was then wheeled back (with a smile on my face!!) into the recovery bay where after a short rest I had a well-earned piece of toast and cup of tea.

I cannot praise the staff enough; the newly modelled unit means there are fewer patients which adds to a sense of calm reassurance.

Whilst these types of procedures are never enjoyable, everyone I met that afternoon did all they could to make it as stress-free an experience as possible, and I am really appreciative of that.

I would recommend this department to family and friends.
