"Missed appointment"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital / Dermatology

I just wanted to write a review as feedback to the hospital. I have been in the system for a minor skin surgery procedure for over three months now. This is due to what I believe to be delays with my GP rather than the hospital however an appointment for surgery still required a months wait for something I know can be done at a GP surgery. I then missed the appointment due to a genuine oversight on my part having attended for surgery on the day after my appointment. I called the following working day and have been advised that I have been discharged from the hospital. I understand the strain that hospitals are under and the problems they face with people wasting time and not attending for appointments however I would like to know if the hospital ever contacts minor procedure patients if they don't attend for an appointment? Whilst it was my fault that the appointment was missed it is still for a surgical appointment that is causing me some form of emotional distress and to now have to wait another three weeks for an appointment is upsetting, especially as I have still not spoken to a doctor from the dermatology team and simply attended for some photographs and received a letter for surgery. Do all patients just get discharged without investigation? The staff on reception have been very helpful and found me the earliest appointment possible but I would like to suggest that when patients do not attend appointments, instead of simply discharging them from the system, perhaps someone puts in a quick call just to confirm the circumstances? Had I received a call when I hadn't shown up for the appointment I could have been at the hospital within 20 minutes and perhaps an entire appointment slot would not have been wasted.
