"No sense of urgency"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital / Gynaecology

(as the patient),

I was admitted over the Easter weekend.

I appreciate that nurses are busy, but it seemed to me quite apparent that some of them spent a lot of time chatting about various tv programmes and booked holidays at the desk area when I could hear the emergency buzzers were continuously being pressed by some patients. As a patient, I only wanted to call in emergencies obviously, but on one occasion I pressed the buzzer 3 times in case it wasn't working and some of these nurses were still chatting, laughing and walked past my room without any hurry. On another occasion, my partner went to find a nurse to enquire about the pain relief that I was supposed to have had. This took 3 attempts and by then I was in agony. In my opinion, there did not seem to be a sense of urgency around the place.

I can appreciate that I am not a nurse, but do feel that my conscience would prick me if I said that I would do a dressing and did not return at all throughout the day as an example of what had happened to me.
