"Overnight observations minus the observations."

About: Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother Hospital / Accident and emergency

My brother was admitted overnight to CDU following a collapse with cardiac history. His consultant said he should be in the Coronary Care Unit but no beds were available. He was admitted for overnight monitoring of his heart rate, rhythm, etc and clinical observations. He never had a monitor fitted and he never had his blood pressure or pulse recorded all night, in fact he said the night nurse never spoke to him. This happened on 1st September 2016. If this is the Trusts idea of care and observation, they need a big wake up call. Quite disgusting. I am a recently retired critical care nurse and ashamed if this is what they consider careful monitoring of an acutely unwell and frightened patient.

I am truly sorry to learn about this and we need to look into what happened here.

Please contact PALS (the Patient Advice and Liaison Service) on 01227 864314 or 01227 783145 (please leave a message if you get the answerphone and they will get back to you as soon as possible) or alternatively, email them on ekh-tr.PALS@nhs.net so that they can take some details.

I am really sorry that your brother felt so frightened and hope he is feeling a little better now.
