"Car Park"

About: King George Hospital

Unfortunately, upon returning to my car I found that it would not start. I called the RAC and had to wait approximately 2 hours. I assumed that once my vehicle had been fixed I could ask security to allow the RAC person to leave without paying and, as I had already paid £2.40, that I would not have to pay again. Unfortunately, the person I spoke to on the intercom was rather rude and said that I should have notified them that I was waiting for the RAC. When I asked how was I supposed to know that, they replied "it's common sense". Common sense would be to display a notice stating that in order to avoid excess charges, in the event of a vehicle breakdown you must notify security immediately. Two different security personnel refused to help and kept repeating that they had no check on me. I was forced to pay double car parking fees; the charges are already extremely high without people in distress, especially senior citizens, such as myself, having to pay double. I understand that the RAC person was, after a discussion, allowed to leave the car park without payment.

I sorry to hear of the problems you encountered following your car troubles at King George Hospital. I am disappointed that the security staff were not more understanding of your situation. To discuss this further, please contact our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or by email, PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk.

Yours Sincerely

Kathryn Halford
