"Very Rude Midwife's in the Labour Ward"

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / Maternity

Unfortunately, the unprofessional and rude treatment my wife received on the phone on two occasions by two different midwife's made her not want to have labour in PAH. My wife and I have recently moved to be within the catchment area of PAH and they were very unwilling to accept my wife as a patient, insisting that she stays with the hospital where she has had antenatal classes. Even with a written letter from our doctor (Who is based close to our old residence) this was still not deemed sufficient. The manner in which the two members of staff spoke to my wife was totally impolite and unpleasant - resulting in unnecessary stress and actually the whole saga was very upsetting. I understand the stresses that midwifes encounter day to day but there is no excuse for their rudeness and unprofessionalism in this matter. Very Disappointing!

Dear Mr Budd,

Thank you for making contact. Staff sometimes have to be assertive when providing information if there is no possibility of choice and there is a need to be clear and decisive as may have been the case here, but rudeness is completely unacceptable.

We pride ourselves on providing outstanding family and women's services, so I was genuinely surprised when reading your comment and would like to investigate the matter further. We expect the highest standards from every single member of our staff and will not tolerate rudeness in any form towards the women, men, families and communities we serve. If you are able to follow this up, please make contact with me at pals@pah.nhs.uk. Thank you once again for leaving a comment.
