"SUA & Crownhill ward."

About: Derriford Hospital

The way the staff treat you here on certain wards is disgusting, whilst in SUA the staff were slow, I was given wrong medication that wasn't prescribed for me by a care assistant not a even a nurse or doctor as it wasn't even prescribed for me, the care assistant was not trained in medication especially not in a controlled drugs, this is where delegating jobs starts to go wrong. I was then waiting just short of 6 hours for my next dose of pain relief when it should have been every 2 hours, despite calling my call bell, physically getting out of my bed and dragging my drip with me to ask at the desk & family members asking for me. The staff are kind and friendly towards you but clearly understaffed they have no time for the patients needs, 3 hours I had to sit in a chair because they still hadn't come and re made my bed. I was then moved to Crownhill ward, bearing in mind I am young, about to have an operation and very worried, these staff are the least sensitive of them all, they were not welcoming, they were rude and unpleasant, nobody seemed to know what was going on, anything you ask is brushed off. I just honestly hope that in the future no one who is frightened and scared and just needing a bit of reassurance is put on this ward, as you are made to feel like a burden, not one nurse / doctor / HCA knew how to smile or be kind or warm it even welcoming, anything you ask whether it's for advice or help seems to be a chore and they all make you feel so small.

This is my first stay in this hospital and I really hope it's my last.!
