"My terrible hospital experience"

About: John Radcliffe Hospital / Gynaecology

I left the gynae day surgery today with my eyes filled tears bcos l have been treated so poorly and unfairly. I live in Buckinghamshire, l had a choice from my NHS to choose 3 hospitals around my area which l choose Oxford because l thought it was the best choice out of the 3. My first experience was when l saw a consultant for counselling before my treatment. During the counsel my husband decided to write things down so we will know exactly what was discussed. The consultant told him there was no need because they will send us a letter detailing all what discussed. We waited for 6wks for the letter to come through but it was sent. So l decided to follow it up by phone calls. After numerous phone calls and leaving voice messages l managed to get hold of the secretary who told me the consultant is too busy. Thinking l have called so the letter will through ASAP. To my surprise it didn't until another 4weeks!! Finally, when it came through l was astonished to find the letter had only 5 lines of sentences. I couldn't believe it.

After the counseling l had a second appointment for hysteroscopic, which l had a letter confirming l was on the 10weeks waiting list. After 10weeks l called the gynae department to check if they have any date for me l was told who ever told me is weeks that info was true. I was then told its normally 6months. Not sure who was telling the truth I also asked my GP to follow up to make sure l get the right waiting time. My GP did and we were both told in August. In August l called them to check if they have any dates but they didn't. After telling them l wouldn't be able to come in in September as my husband is going to have a surgery done and l will have to take care of him for 6months they finally got me a date. I was meant to go in for my pre-op on the 23rd and 26th for my surgery. Now it takes me 1:15mins to get to Oxford so set off on time but unfortunately got stuck in traffic knowing l was going to be late l started calling to notify them. They didn't answer so left a message. When got in at 20mins late the nurse refused to see me. I tried to explain that l have come from far and l have been trying to contact them with no response. Refusing to see me l was told to come in another day. The whole day and petrol wasted! I got in on time at 7:30 for my surgery, around about 10:30 when l checked with the nurses l was told they're waiting for my paperwork. I checked again at 2pm, getting hungry because l wasn't allowed to eat my husband and l kept checking with the nurses what was holding them. The nurses kept lying to us that the consultant were waiting for my paperwork to be faxed. For almost 9hrs of waiting and starving we were told the surgery was cancelled. I was not given any paperwork and also wasn't told the next rescheduled appointment. I felt let down and so disappointed. I've completely lost trust in Oxford hospital and will share this horrible experience to friends and family. I will def take this matter further
