"Visit to A&e with my son"

About: Milton Keynes Hospital / Accident and emergency

We were advised by 111 to get my 20 year old son to A&e within an hour and avoid moving his head! He had suspected menigitis and was almost screaming with pains in his head! On arrival I was told under the circumstances he was 3 rd in line, 2 others with chest pains were in front of him. I could totally understand this, he was seen within 20 mins and as he was so really ill the nurse who examined did not hang about, they took bloods and full examination took us straight through to the 999 area of A&e. I was so impressed, they acted so fast. It snowballed from there every part of his care was excellent, just one negative factor which I would hope would get back to the consultant is the ear nose and throat specialist saw him within an hour to rule that out but sadly they failed to see my son had acute toncillitus and it took a further 11 hours for a brilliant consultant to simply spot his really bad throat. He had been through a brain scan and was told he would need a lumber puncture in the morning. He was terrified but at 11 a doctor visited us and checked his throat and diagnosed acute toncilitus and glandular fever! He was home within an hour with antibiotics thank you so much for all of the staff that helped. This is not my first adventure with A&E and they have always been brilliant, if only the info could be speeded up, we were 12 hours before we could really have a full diagnosis. But staff were amazing, well done. I know you get a bad press and it is so unjust!
