"Accident and emergency"

About: William Harvey Hospital (Ashford) / Accident and emergency

Staff were very rude, offered no explanation of what was happening. It was unbarably hot with only a desk fan to cool a large space. Offered warm water to drink. Told countless times they're very busy, I'm 3rd in queue with nobody being called. 3 hours later with a bad laceration to my finger with my partner suffering pregnancy symptoms. I had to ask them to redress my wound so I could leave, a member of staff seemed to ignore my Autism Alert Card and branded me rude and out of order. They disrespectfully dressed my wound but not before telling me I've jumped the queue and I'm being unfair on others. I really found the whole experience quite upsetting, especially as I was in serious discomfort and had an open wound. Anyone with brains having read this will avoid at all costs. Absolutely useless

I am truly sorry that you had such a distressing experience of the A&E department at the William Harvey Hospital.

It is emphasised to all staff that they should communicate any delays to patients and to apologise when people are kept waiting.

It didn't help that it was so hot as well.

We are currently updating the A&E facility so shortly the whole environment will be much more pleasant for both patients and staff.

I am sorry that staff did not take account of your Autism Alert Card and I shall bring that to the attention of the specialist nurse.

I hope that your wound has now healed.
