I attended the Day Case Unit to have surgery on my knee. I was quite worried but the staff put me at ease. Very upbeat, caring and attentive. Lovely nurses that would have a laugh and a joke with you and who would go out of their way if you had any questions. Particulary after returning from the OR the primary concern for the staff was ensuring that you were comfortable and getting you any food/drink you may wish to have after being nil by mouth. My previous experience of having a GA was not a very pleasent one, the process of going under after walking to the OR felt rushed which only heightened my anxiety. On this occassion I was met with a smile, it was all very calm and I immediatly felt at ease. Overall the experience I had from when I first walked through the door to hobbling out with my crutches was about as enjoyable as a surgical procedure can get. The staff working in the DCU need serious recognition for the passion and positive attitude they provide nervous and fretting patients like me on a day to day basis. Would always recommend Broadgreen DCU, thank you for the amazing care.
