About: Royal Derby Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

My mother at the age of 97 was admitted after a heart attack. She was placed in an old peoples ward with dementia sufferers not a cardiac ward. Clean clothing and medication she arrived with was misplaced.Promises made to correct matters were slow to be acted on. Her record book was inaccurately filled in with regards to her eating habits. Her medication was seen left on her bed and not locked away. It all seemed very unprofessional. Apart from her time in the medical assesment dept. at no time did anyone approach her visitors(sons and daughter) to give any information about her treatment of her state of health.

What could be improved

Qualified nursing staff spending less time doing paperwork. Better communication by medical staff for visitors who are after all often under great stress.

Anything else?

At an earlier visit to in Feb. to have a leg wound examined my 97 year old mother had to kneel on a chair to gain access to the bed for treatment. This in a hospital that cost £340M. The bandaging done was described by our district nurse as more like a tournique

Thank you for your feedback. Having read your posting we would very much appreciate it if you could contact Kerry Pape, Assistant Director of Nursing (Patient Experience), on 01332 787095, or through PALS on freephone 0800 7837691, to discuss your concerns about the apparent lack of basic nursing care that your mother has experienced. Please be assured your concerns will be taken seriously.
