"Transfer of A and E from QE II to Lister"

About: Lister Hospital

An hour and a half for my son to wait for an ambulance in WGC town centre for a dislocated knee yesterday evening to then have to wait 5 hours at the Lister for anyone to even see him as the poor overworked staff were obviously stretched to the limit.

Took all of 5 minutes for the doctor to pop his dislocated knee back in place. Then to have to pay £40 for a taxi to get home in the middle of the night. Welwyn Hatfield needs A and E services back at the QE II.

We're sorry that your experience of the Lister's emergency department was not as good as we would have liked.

Emergency services across the country are seeing significant rises in attendances at the moment and Sunday was particularly busy, but it is not like this all the time.

Although the vast majority of dislocated needs do respond quickly to the sort of manipulation carried out by the doctor at the Lister last night, if complications happen then this can require surgery - which is why your son was brought to the Lister rather than the new 24/7 Urgent Care Centre at the QEII.

If you would like to make a complaint about the care your son received, then please just email us at generalenquiries.enh-tr@nhs.net.
