Suffered a 3rd degree tear when having my first baby. Was told at hospital my follow up appointment would be 8-10 weeks after delivery. 15 weeks later i go to appointment. After waiting for an hour in a hot waiting room with a young baby i was finally seen. I appreciate that you cant always run to time however there were about 6 people waiting so why it took an hour to be seen i'll never know. Once in there Dr was pleasant enough and nurse was nice. Was examined and told in less than 10mins that had healed well with no need to be seen again. So after 1hour 10mins then came time to pay for parking........£3.60 for just over an hour. I could get my car washed for less than that. I understand that they need to check you over, however could a community midwife not visit you before your appointment and if you do not need it, get it cancelled and give it to someone who does need the appointment. With NHS always having budgets cuts would it not cost less money to only refer those who need it. Mind you what they must make in parking should cover any cuts. Service itself was good other than the ridiculously long wait.

We welcome all feedback and would like to assure you that all comments are taken seriously and acted upon as part of our ongoing commitment to improving patient experience.

We are sorry that you had to wait a while in our waiting area and appreciate that this may have been uncomfortable for you and your child. We always do our very best to make sure clinics run on time; however, because it is difficult to predict how long individual appointments will take, sometimes delays do occur. If there are considerable delays, we ask staff to keep patients informed about the length of wait expected.

National guidance from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists recommends that women who have been treated for a third degree perineal tear should have their follow-up undertaken specifically by a doctor. Although we understand it may have been more convenient for you to be seen by a nurse or midwife in your own home, we would always strive to follow best practice to ensure our patients receive the best possible care.

We are currently making a number of improvements to our Outpatient Department which should reduce the number of late-running clinics. We have passed your feedback onto the team responsible for this project and for the team in Gynaecology Outpatients.
