We left the Rosie yesterday and we have returned home safely with our little boy, thanks to the exceptional level of support we had from every member of staff we encountered. Unfortunately we didn't have a particularly straight forward birth but this was dealt with incredibly efficiently and with a level of professionalism that made us both feel that we were in very safe hands. I am surprised to read that some people had commented in a negative way, but seeing the constant flow of mothers coming in, together with the relatively low number of staff on shift at any given time, some parents might feel that they aren't being given the attention they expected. This can be resolved by the partner assisting as much as possible to ease that pressure. We certainly felt that the staff did all they could to make us feel like we were being given 24 hour care, from the fantastic team at the NICU to the all the midwifes within the Sara ward, all of which we will be eternally grateful. The only issue I personally feel needs addressing is the rule that partners are required to leave in the evening. Surely at this moment in life, after a fairly intense few days and nights, when your partner most needs you, it would be nice to have a reclining chair in the ward. We were fortunate on a number of evenings that I got to stay, but others I met, who certainly were going through some tricky times, were forced to go home. Anyhow this certainly hasn't affected my views, and if anyone has the opportunity to bring their beautiful child into the world from the Rosie, don't hesitate.
