"Fantastic care"

About: Lister Hospital

I had my little girl at Lister back in January and was recently discussing my birth with a friend and when reminiscing I was reminded how fantastic I was treated by all staff during my stay. I was admitted to the consultant led ward as I had preeclampsia and my bp was consistently high. I was as you can imagine excited to meet my little one but also extremely scared and nervous. My midwives were amazing making feel as at ease as I could be. I had several doctors who came to check on me and work out a plan to get my daughter out safely and to stabilise my bp, all of who were fantastic and would talk me through everything they were planning and why they were doing what they were doing.

The midwives would then make sure I knew what they meant and would explain what I didn't understand. Everyone treated me with such care and I instantly trusted that they would keep me and my baby safe. The doctors and midwives were having to check my obs every 15 minutes and even though I was keeping them busy they were all so kind to me and treated me with care each time and never missed a check. After 24 hours of being induced I had to have an emergency c section and the midwives stayed after their shifts to make sure that they stayed with me until my daughter was safely born and thank goodness they did as they then resuscitated my daughter when she stopped breathing after delivery, for this I am eternally grateful to them. I spent a few days in the high dependency unit which I don't remember a lot of but I do know that the midwives that took care of me and my daughter were also amazing and so helpful supporting my partner who was having to do it all as I was unable to help him. They made his first few days as a dad much easier showing him what to do and helping him get some sleep. We then got transferred to the Gloucester ward who where again I was looked after 24 hours a day by such lovely midwives and doctors who did everything they could to get me better and home as quickly as they could but making sure I was well enough to do so. We stayed in for 8 nights and I was so grateful that my partner could stay in there overnight with us the whole time as even though we were in hospital we still got to stay together as a new family. I had the choice to go to Lister or Cambridge Rosie and I'm so happy I chose Lister, most people are shocked because of the Rosie's reputation so I tell them about my experience and how amazing I was treated by all staff days and nights and have even helped other make the decision to come to you too. My 7 month little girl is very healthy, beautiful with an amazing personality already and I am grateful to all of the team for taking such care of all 3 of us. Please pass on my thanks to the midwives and the rest of the team on all 3 departments.

Thanks for getting in touch - your kind words have been passed on to all involved in your care, including the midwifery, consultant-led unit and Gloucester ward teams.

They will be delihgted to read how highly you rated their care and that our your now seven month old baby girl.

It sounds like you went through quite a traumatic period, through which you were led carefully and safely by our fab team in the Lister's Diamond Jubilee Maternity Unit.

Thanks again, and please accept our best wishes for the future.
