"Very happy with University Hospital Lewisham"

About: Lewisham PCT University Hospital Lewisham

(as the patient),

I've had both my children at University Hospital Lewisham and have had fantastic experiences. My daughter was born in Feb 07 by c-section due to being breech and my son was a surgical birth in Nov 09 after a 28 hour labour.

Every member of staff, from the mid-wives to the surgeons treated me with kindness and respect. I was clearly given options and choices at every stage of labour and the staff were very reassuring and supportive. They went beyond the call of duty to make our experiences on delivery day as happy as possible.

The hospital is spotless and the ante natal care is excellent too. I think people are very quick to criticise Lewisham – I don’t think it's not as glamorous as St Thomas's or as new as QE etc. It is a teaching hospital though and the staff I have come across there are extremely good. My family has also had experiences with the A&E, Children's A&E and Radiology over the last three years and we have had positive experiences every time and felt extremely well looked after.

The Children's Hospital and Children's A&E departments especially are fantastic resources.

I saw a big difference too in the standard of post natal care on the maternity ward second time around. There seem to be less agency staff and the night staff were brilliant for my son's birth. Previously, that would have been my only criticism from my daughter's birth on Feb 07, that the aftercare was quite brusque. I believe the quality of post natal care has improved a lot and I was looked after very well indeed in Nov 09.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hospital and think there are some very talented and dedicated staff working there. Thank you for looking after my family so well.
