We visited the maternity unit to have our baby in July 2016. We couldn't fault the level if care and attention we were given while I was in labour. My midwife never left my side for over 12 hours while I was in labour, they were so kind and caring. However, the level of care after I gave birth was horrendous! Being a first time mam I was fairly reliant on information given to me by the team of midwives, but found that the information they were relaying was different depending on who we asked. For example, I was told by one midwife to undress my baby down to nappy and do skin to skin as I was struggling to breast feed, then was told by another one who came in 15 minutes later (while i was in the bathroom and mt husband had hold of the baby) that there was no way we should have our baby with no blanket on or clothes and they proceeded to take the baby off my husband and wrap her in 4 blankets even though my husband had explained what we were trying to do. We were getting told conflicting information about how much formula she should be drinking which was really upsetting me as one midwife was saying one amount and another was saying a lot less. On the night we stayed in my husband went out to the food cart to collect my evening meal and overheard one of the midwives saying to the staff member putting the food out that there was no one else who needed anything so the food that was left could go in the bin, and there was a lot of food left! We were aware when we went in that my husband wouldn't be offered any food but it seemed ridiculous to throw good food away when there was a number of partners who could have been fed. We were then told at 8.30 the next morning that we could go home as soon as my notes and prescription were ready, we were then left waiting in the room until 1pm when we asked how much longer it was expected to take to then be told the prescriptions didn't come up till at least 2 so we could just go home and call back for it later that night! So why weren't we told that at 8.30 on the morning instead of leaving us sitting waiting all morning for nothing! I really felt like once we had the baby no one really cared anymore! I would never have another baby in this hospital!
