"one day you'll get old !"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

My Mother was admitted to B2 ward ,I found the staff to be very rude and unwilling to answer questions. My mom was left more than once in wet bedding, for hours even when they were ask to change bedding. When my mom was in pain she asked for pain relief to which again she was left In pain for long periods of time without pain relief. when my mom was being sick the staff just left sick bowls lying around..I witnessed on one visit a nurse was raising their voice towards my mother.I found my mother was very stressed /anxious when I visited her because staff were being unhelpful towards her. when ever I asked questions about my mothers health the staff were always either unwilling to answer any questions or didn't seem to know the answers.

The staff seem to think that all old people are deaf, they raise there voices and go close up there face to talk to them, just because the elderly are old and weak they should not be treated as if they have a insane mind. because one day we all have to get old and they should remember that that patient could be there mother/nan/ in hospital and need care/attention feeling upset/nervous/needing comfort. I understand that staff are busy but there no need for lack of care and being heartless towards the elderly..

Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback about your mother's experience of ward B2. We aim to offer the highest standards of care to our patients and we are very sorry that we fell short of this aim during your mother's stay.

We are concerned by your comments about our staff and would welcome the opportunity to look into your concerns in more detail. If you would like us to do this, please contact the matron for the ward on 01384 456111 extension 2668. She would be happy to arrange a meeting.
