"Travel / parking / secretary irritation"

About: Royal Stoke University Hospital

We had to come to Stoke for a test we could have had locally to us but secretary was very unhelpful and refused to ask consultant to refer nearer. We were told we had to come to Stoke. We were not aware at consultation that we could have the test locally.

The parking directions wasnt clear to start off with and Parking was an absolute nightmare.

It took longer to get a space than travel the journey to here!!!!!

It could have took us 10 minutes locally which we could have done in a taxi. We had to drop off mum to the department and go trailing for a car park space.

We had horrendous visions of her wondering off!

The waiting room in neuro was very boring although a radio was turned on after my mother had gone in for test. The staff there were brilliant.

Very helpful and extremelly friendly putting my mum at ease.

No smiles from other staff wondering around. In fact, we sat in the diniing room where a group on another table were discussing patients!

The whole experience wasnt too bad apart from parking nightmare!

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. It is great to hear that the staff caring for your mum were able to put her at ease. I know it is always daunting coming to hospital, particularly in unfamilar surroundings.

We are consistently looking to find ways to improve car parking at the hospital, signage, maps and directions, based on the feedback that we receive from our patients. We are also working to recruit more volunteers to provide a "meet & greet" service in main reception.

I will share your observations with the Neuro team.

Kind regards

Angela Grocott. Head of Patient Experience.
