I had to go here yesterday evening with my daughter and her little son who had a fish bone lodged in his throat. They are visiting from their home in Cardiff.
My grandson is 2 and a half years old and obviously very distressed and seemed unable/unwilling to swallow. The friendly receptionist assessed the situation very well and although quite busy and we waited best part of an hour, once seen by a very nice nurse practitioner, who examined, xrayed and sought advice from ENT staff at Stoke Manderville decided to try to remove the fish bone.
The alternative would have been to go to Oxford! They said they would make one attempt only. Due to their skill and ability to get this little boy to cooperate, they removed this bone without any problem . We cannot praise highly enough the care we received. A lot of criticism is directed at the NHS, but on this occasion we were very glad to receive such wonderful help and care and are very grateful to live in this country and close to Wycombe Minor Injuries Unit.
