"I was not looked after properly ..."

About: Homerton University Hospital

(as the patient),

What could be improved

I was not looked after properly at the hospital, having been put in a splint for 2 weeks and given another appointment for then. I returned to find to find that not only had the X-Ray of the splinted injury not even been positioned correctly, but that I would actually have to return in a further 4 weeks. The injury was not reset, it was left out of place, but apparently within the acceptable parameters. A nurse also refused to give me medical tape required to hold the splint in place, telling me I was greedy and I should buy some from the shop.

Again after returning 4 weeks later, I was told by the consultant to get on with things, given no exercises to complete, no referal to physio for rehabilitation. I was unable to bend the damaged joint, the consultant didn't care, they did not involve me in any decision making and gave the impression that it was just tough luck. Despite being 27 years old, using my hands for my career and having sustained an injury to my right (main) hand. I am left with a finger that will never regain full function, is deformed and causes pain. I am disgusted at the way this was treated. I had to take matters into my own hands to get referred to physio and then another hospital who also are trying to "make the best of a bad situation". If this was treated correctly at the start I think I would have had a greater recovery.

Anything else?

I am still not content with the outcome of the way I was treated.
