I was referred by my GP to the hospital for an urgent consultation for a suspected cancerous growth. However, after making the appointment, some weeks later I received a terse letter from Spire Little Aston saying that they are cancelling the appointment and that I should revert to my GP in the future.
Upset, I called Spire to complain and ask why this was; given the circumstances.
It appears, after much digging, that there is a arrangement between the NHS and this provider of Private Healthcare, that they will only accept patients without other pre-existing conditions, for which there is a "list" that my GP should have read beforehand.
My condition is an hereditary blood issue, unavoidable but not complex nor immediately life-threatening.
I am otherwise fit and healthy, good BMI, good blood pressure, etc, etc.
In short in good health.
It really does make me very depressed to feel that I am being doubly penalised; once by mother nature but then by some sort-of argument that only the fittest people will be seen.
Very sad :(
