"Pain and stiffness in knee replacement 1 year on"

About: Weston General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

My mother had her second knee replaced last year. Now she is more or less unable to walk and is in constant terrible pain in both knees.

She complains that both are stiff and so painful she can't walk or sleep at night.

Living alone is a problem. She has tried all the drugs around, the last being Artrotec. All she gets is no relief and sickness and diarrhea.

What can she do? She seems to get no help from GP's or hospital, and cannot even get to the chemist.

She had bad knees before, now she has none, and pain!

We were very sorry to hear about your mother's ongoing difficulties and distress. If you have not already done so, you may wish to contact the local PALS service at Weston General Hospital. Part of the function of PALS (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) is to support patients who have issues about their treatment at the hospital. They can be contacted on telephone 01934 647216.

Thank you for your posting.
