"Care in level 9"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency

(as a friend),

I visited a friend several weekends ago who was admitted as an emergency to QEUH level 9 from NHS 24 at the Victoria Infirmary. She required an emergency endoscopy, IV antibiotics and pain relief. The medical and nursing care she received was first class and everyone from the domestic to the kitchen staff were polite and courteous and went the extra mile. When I visited on Sunday she was quite unwell however after being allowed to stay with her most of the afternoon and early evening - I was able to assist with mobilising and personal care - I felt no qualms about leaving her until she was ready for discharge on the Monday as the staff were attentive and kept her well informed of all that was going on. 10/10 to everyone involved and thank you. Made me proud to be an NHS worker.

I work in a small team within NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde. Part of the team’s role is to support patients and carers through our feedback systems which will help to improve the services we provide. On Patient Opinion, I support Lorna Gray, Patient Experience Public Involvement Project Manager, and Niall McGrogan, Head of Patient Experience Public Involvement.

Dear keepitsimple

Thank you for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. The type of care that you have described here, is what we expect all of our patient's friends and families to witness as well as our patient's being well informed about their care, which you have also highlighted. I can tell from what you have said that it was also important to you that you were able to stay with your friend for most of the afternoon and evening, which is an important aspect in a patient's recovery.

I will ensure that your kind words are passed on to the staff. They will appreciate receiving such positive feedback.

I hope that your friend is now recovering well at home.

Best wishes
Lisa
