"A&E/Ward 9 27th July-28th July"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

On a trip out to durham not being from the area and taking ill. I was very shaking up with anxiety due to negative experiences at other places in the past and I cant get over how well trained, polite, comforting your staff are. A & E yes I had to wait in a waiting room for 2 hours after triage and I was in pain but everyone has to wait and atleast it was calm and there was services like shop and vending machines for my friend so she didn't have to leave me forever. I was expecting to be discharged with medication and contact your GP. I can say I am so thrilled I was taking seriously the practitioner offered me very strong drugs to get the pain to a moderate level to exam they allowed my friend with me all the way, explained every procedure in detail and I was not waiting around for ages for example when I was told I was going to ward 9 the porter was with me within 10 min. The nursing staff were great every time I was uncomfortable they got me heat packs, medication, pillows everything to make me comfortable and even got my friend a seat and when I was confused explained to my friend. Ward 9 staff were amazing the nurse was so caring over my learning difficulties and all the nurses said I am in for my physical health condition but part of there job was to help me like my mum would do at home they provided me with soft food so I didn't choke, they calmed me down and told me not to worry all the time and explained they are there for me. The student nurses talked to me and 1 of them explained everything, taught me how to take tablets a better way, taught me how to do my left and right simple things I struggle with they even got me to build confidence in sleeping with 1 side down and going to toilet alone which I do at home now. The fact that 2 members of staff took me to my scan and stayed with me through it all and showed me who each staff was. The care was faultless the doctor offered me to stay the night and home day or go home that night I originally opted to stay the extra night as I was scared with pain but the sister of ward explained they would give me pain relief and how they felt I was more agitated away from home. the night I was admitted my friend was allowed to stayto calm me down and when my mum come to drop things of and picky my friend up she was aloud to stay a couple of hours. Staff are unbelevable in fact they deserve a massive thank you they know how to make people feel welcome and I strogly recommend anyone with learning difficulties who is on that ward to be honest they do help. They even just chat anything they do it. I loved my stay because I got better not worse. I also got discharged with referrals and medication and lots of love.
