Many thanks for the care and support given to me, and Jenny, during my 7.5 week 'journey' through St Lukes Radiotherapy Department.
There are too many names to mention, so could you please pass my thanks to the LA1, LA2 teams, along with your colleagues who looked after me during my planning scan, and for all the support and kindnesses offered throughout my treatment time by your colleagues.
Having studied your information leaflet 'Radiotherapy to the Prostrate', I felt well prepared for the journey ahead. But nothing prepared me for the amazing up beat and positive ethos that runs throughout this department. From day one, I knew I was in capable, friendly and thoroughly professional hands.
What quickly became apparent was that this department runs on a mix of the best practices of both the NHS and McMillan service ethos. On many occasions, I have been speaking with patients, who whether through fear, nervousness, or not wanting to 'cause a bother', found the courage to ask for advice, only to find that they were closely listened to by the staff, and always came away with a solution that helped them clear their problem.
And finally the patients. The layout of the department and the staff attitudes, did much to foster an approachable atmosphere where everyone felt safe to discuss and compare notes with each other. A wonderfully collegiate atmosphere - sometimes breaking into a 'mash style' good humoured atmosphere that did much to dispel any anxieties.
If it transpires that I need any further treatment - I for one would look forward to visiting St Lukes again - apart form the car park!
Oh, and yes, I will be missing coming here each day.
Very best regards
