I wanted to share my recent experience with Dr's and staff at Monkland's Hospital.
On Friday afternoon I was referred by my family physician to the ERU for severe pains in my abdomen on the left side. Upon arrival I was seen promptly but staff and provided pain killers to deal with the pain. I was then assessed by ERU doctor and had x-ray, blood/urine tests and scan. It was determined that I had a kidney stone that would require attention. Based on my degree of discomfort and location of stone arrangements the staff decided to keep me overnight to see the urologist consultant the following day and I was admitted to Ward 6, 2nd floor. Through the course of the night the ward staff kept my pain in check and I was able to get some rest.
The next day the urologist consultant (Mr. Kham), registrar (Mr. Marri) and FY1 (Dr. Russell) attended my bedside to update me on my condition and discuss options. During our talk I shared my pending travel plans and expressed concerns that my condition may impact these. Mr Marri recognized the jeopardy I may place myself and the flight in if I did not get this situation addressed and experienced an attack while in-flight (including potential financial impacts). At this point the decision was made to proceed to the theater at the next available opening to scope the location of the stone and remove if possible. Fortunately there was a time the following day and plans were set in motion.
The procedure when off without incident, the stone removed and a stent inserted to help with healing. After a night of observation I was released on Monday with an appointment on Wednesday to have the stent removed.
From start to finish I feel that I received brilliant attention and care from all involved in my stay.. from ERU, to ward, to surgery (including anesthesiologists), to recovery and food services. (apologies to anyone I may have overlooked).
I am now recovering, the pain has subsided dramatically and I am free to travel to see my family as planned. Needless to say my wife and children are also pleased with the way my situation was handled and the speed.
Thank you to everyone!
"Great Experience"
