"Horrendous waiting time for SET appointment."

About: Broomfield Hospital

I suffer from a recurring pneumothorax which has been treated twice at Broomfield. I've visited more than twice with it but usually sent home without treatment and a disregard of my symptoms so unless the pain is excruciating I tend not to bother even going. Today I had a scheduled appt. for 10.30am for a follow-up after having my right lung aspirated on Thursday last week. I didn't have my BP etc taken until 11.30, X-Ray at around 11.50 then sat in ACU waiting room until 1.30 when i decided to discharge myself as I & everyone waiting had been told the nurses didn't even know when any of us would be seen because the consultant wasn't even IN the building. Ridiculous. Do notgive people appointments you clearly cannot organise or stick to. You're not the only busy people you know. In future I will either ride out my Pneumothorax at home in bed (as I have done several times as I'm more comfortable there than waiting 5-8 hours on average to be seen.) or I will travel further out and visit another hospital. I am extremely dissatisfied with the level of concern your staff seemed to have with the fact they had a waiting room full of people who had been there at least three hours each. I have wasted my day and yet more money on your extortionate parking charges and am still really no closer to having any answers as to why this keeps happening to me.
