"Visit to sick kids A&E"

About: Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital / Accident & Emergency (Emergency Care)

(as a parent/guardian),

I took my son into A&E recently and wanted to say thanks to the 2 lovely nurses we seen. I'm so sorry I can't remember the young female nurse' name and Drew.

My sons toenail was falling off and despite the fact that I'm a nurse myself I just didn't know what to do for the best. I couldn't bring myself to pull it off and I didn't feel I could leave it as it was.

I knew it was a very minor complaint and really felt bad taking him in so I was very grateful at how kind the nurses were, they never let me feel in anyway that I had wasted their time, even when while waiting for the doctor my son caught his nail on my clothing and pulled it off himself, which really made me feel a bit daft.

It can be difficult knowing what to do for the best especially for your children, so thank you both for making us feel at ease.

Also my son cant wait to come back cause you have great toys 😊.

Dear anxious mum and fellow nurse

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide such positive feedback about the nurses you met when you and your son had to come to the Children’s Hospital. We will make sure it is passed to the relevant staff.

You are absolutely right – it can sometimes be difficult to know what to do for the best for children. I think many of us have felt like that at times and it is good to hear that the nurses were supportive and helpful.

Of course, we don’t want to see your son back any time soon – but we’re glad he liked the toys!

Kind regards

Laura Gray
