"pelvic pain"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Gynaecology Services

(as the patient),

I have suffered with awful pelvic pain for about ten years. Have had many examinations and tests and medications which have not resulted in any improvement. The pain kind of came to a head a few days ago and I found a lump down below which my own gp had referred me to gynae before about but nothing was picked up. Quite a few appointments I had at gynae were rescheduled and I even got an appointment which I turned up for but the consultant couldnt deal with me as I was under a different consultant already so I was sent home, given a new appointment where a possible removal of my ovaries at some point was discussed after trying a bit longer with an injection which brings on menopause. I chose not to have the injection again so ended up being told I likely have vulvodemia. My vagina is fine but part of my back passage has collapsed and is now poking through my vagina. I have never had a rectal examination so maybe this could have been found a long time ago. I am in constant pain and now likely will have to wait even longer for surgery to repair this as my doc is trying to get me in on a cancellation. I would rather not have the same consultant as I found her quite intimidating and didnt feel listened to properly but on a plus side, the nursing staff are terrific.

Dear Mn39

I was very sorry to read your story. It sounds as though you have had a difficult time. The constant pain you describe must get you down and the investigations and appointments do not seem to have resulted in a satisfactory outcome for you.

I see from your post that your doctor is hoping that a cancellation appointment might be available for you and I hope you have been able to discuss the next stage of your treatment.

If you would like to contact me directly to talk through your situation my email address is laura.gray2@nhs.net or I can be contacted by phone on 01224 554400.

Kind regards

Laura Gray
