"Appalling a&e"

About: Stoke Mandeville Hospital

Came to A&E with an elderly relative by ambulance, following a serious fall in which he sustained a fracture. We were left stood waiting in the corridor, with my relative, and were ignored by the staff. Everything took a very long time, and we barely saw any staff from hour to hour. No pain relief offered for a fracture, despite him being in a lot of pain and when he was moved, this was unbearable. Sitting with him later on, the trolley was filthy - it had dried blood and dust on the frame, the blood was not his. Reception staff cold and could not have been less reassuring or welcoming if they had tried. Only good point was a lovely staff nurse and a lovely Dr who came later on. Appalling.

Dear Anonymous

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments of feedback following your experience of our services at the A&E department at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

I am very sorry to learn that you felt your elderly relative who was brought in by ambulance following a serious fall, felt ignored by the staff, and there appeared to a length of time before any treatment was provided. I can understand how upsetting this must have been at what must have been a worrying time for you both.

It is good to note, however that you did have a postitive interaction with a lovely staff nurse and doctor at a later stage.

Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust appreciates that feedback from patients and relatives is invaluable in helping us shape how we work in the future. Please be assured that I will pass your anonymous comments to the relevant manager for the service.
