"A&E Admission to Ward M5"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital

After developing a major outer ear infection, which i saw my own GP about, who initialy gave me antibiotics, who told me if not improvements in 24 hours go to Addenbrookes A&E. So found myself in A&E the following afternoon, on what i think was the hottest day of the year, and greeted by very friendly faces, arm tag put on, then onto receptionist who took further details, then waiting to be seen. Was warned it would be 2 hours, so just sat patiently and waited, yes i did wait just over 2 hours, but wasnt a problem, seen very efficiently, photos took of offending ear, while deciding which department i came under; ENT or facial, pain killers offered, bloods taken, and canulla inserted in prep for 48 hour stay of IV antibiotics. In all this time everybody was friendly, chatty and took full details and i was kept up to date with what was going on. Bed was found on M5, and yes it was approx 5 hours from arriving but they are busy, i was comfortable, so no reason to complain. Taken up to M5, and settled into a lovely bright, clean ward. All staff on this ward i found very happy in their work, and always smiley, never moaning about their work load, and a few would come and see good bye at the end of their shift. The only negative if being really picky, was due to my time of arrival on the ward, i have missed tea, wasnt offered anything, but at the same time i am sure if i asked something would have been found, however hubby turned by with a nice large bowl of fresh fruit from M&S! The food wasnt to bad, breakfast standard cereal, hot meal at lunch time, evening meal was slightly strange combination! However i think when in hospital you often dont feel like eating, and if desperate there are outlets in Addenbrookes to purchase food. After 2 nights infection at last going down and pain in control, and i could come home. Only had to wait a couple of hours, when i was collected from the ward by two lovely members of staff who took me down to the discharge lounge! Meds, discharge letter, car parking sorted and explained and that was it, brilliant service. However when home i have noticed a mix up on quantities of perscription, and i will contact my GP to arrange a perscription for the shortage, i should have double checked before leaving the hospital, husband has looked at home and also confirmed that there is an issue. Apart from this mishap, i cant complain at all about my stay, especially after a recent stay for a different issue at a hospital locally, which was horrendous. Thank you to everybody for your care, keep up the good work.
