Following a suspected TIA on Tuesday afternoon, I visited my GP who referred me to the TIA clinic and said they would get in touch within 24hours, I was a little sceptical but at 7.40 the next morning the sister was on the phone asking if I could get to the hospital by 9.00am. A friend drove me there and I was greeted by two lovely members of staff, the receptionist and then the sister. By 10.30am I had had my BP checked, blood tests done, I was then escorted to have a cat scan of my head and an ultrasound of my carotid arteries and I was back in the clinic waiting for an ecg. I was very impressed by the kindness of everyone and the speed and efficiency of the tests and the ecg staff member was no different, everyone put me at my ease when I had felt quite anxious. The final person was the stroke consultant who went through my tests, happily telling me there were no abnormalities found but I would be put on medication as they believed I had had a small clot. The Consultant was very reassuring and clear about everything and less than twenty four hours after the event I was home, with medication and advice. I have to have a couple more tests as a precaution and was told I will then see the consultant again. I feel that the treatment I received was excellent and couldn't have been improved and I am so grateful and wanted to tell you because you only hear about the problems of the nhs and not the good stories
