"Hospital care and after care"

About: Worcestershire Royal Hospital

I was admitted to hospital following a stroke. The CT scanner was out of order so I had to wait for hours on a bed in the corridor, although the doctors did seem to be doing their best. I was taken to the ward over 15 hours later after midnight. The nurse on duty was unwelcoming and offered me only a cup of tea, bearing in mind that I had hardly eaten all day and was still in shock. During the rest of my stay in hospital, the nursing and medical staff were caring and compassionate but there was very little individual attention. For instance, no one ensured I could reach the locker or the phone or showed me how to adjust the bed. The food was totally unsatisfactory, being loaded with salt, fat and carbohydrates. I wonder how they expect patients to recover or remain in good spirits! In the bathroom there was nowhere to hang my clothes and towel and I had to put them on top of the waste bin! The follow-up appointments have been largely a waste of time. There is no continuity, the doctors know nothing about me and have nothing to tell me while the appointments system is a nightmare. Taking everything into account, the hospital needs to improve in many areas.

Thank you for feeding back to us on your experience at Worcester Royal Hospital. I am sorry for the inconvenience of waiting on a bed in the corridor. However I am pleased that during the rest of your stay in hospital the staff were caring and compassionate. Thank you for raising these issues I will pass your comments onto the staff concerned.

Please contact our Patient Services Department on 0300 123 1732 or email wah-tr.PET@nhs.net if you would like us to look into the follow-up appointments or arrange for you to speak to a member of staff about this.

Kind Regards
