"Amazing Aftercare NHS Kent Community..."

I was referred to the NHS Kent Community Cardiac Services Rehabilitation Programme at the Hawkinge Community Centre on Thursday, March 17th, 2016 by an engaging and ultra-efficient Cardiac Rehab Nurse Specialist, who visited me at home on Wednesday, March 9th after I had suffered ACS and been hospitalised at the end of February.

Having considered myself fit & trim, always abiding by a healthy, active lifestyle and sensible diet, I was completely shocked by my cardiac episode, my confidence at an all-time low.

The rehab team, too many to mention individually, particularly as some of them came from other areas in Kent to fill in during staff holidays/sickness, plus two exceptionally kind volunteers, soon made me feel very welcome, totally reassured me and, after my initial assessment, put me completely at ease within the group to receive the ongoing lifestyle talks, (given by specialists in their fields providing supporting leaflets), and exercise sessions, which began the following Tuesday, 22nd March.

Meeting other attendees on a twice weekly basis, usually at different stages in their rehab programme, sharing experiences and occasional worries, also really helped me to normalise my situation and regain my confidence.

I cannot emphasise enough the importance of this cardiac aftercare and rapid follow-up. Without this support, I would have found life post ACS extremely difficult and stressful.

So finally, I would like to express my sincere thanks and gratitude in recognition of the outstanding work and invaluable service the NHS Kent Community Health Cardiac Rehabilitation team provides. Not forgetting the excellent care and treatment I received in the William Harvey Hospital.
