"Appalling"

About: Cumberland Infirmary

Recently had to have family attend this hospital and it's shocking! My aunty is currently in their now and as a dementia patient she isn't getting the care she needs! They said she'd had a mini stroke, has pneumonia and a blood clot and the only treatment she is receiving is oral antibiotics for the pneumonia...she's struggling to swallow, no information has been handed over so nurses don't even know about the clot and stroke. She really isn't getting the right care. Just because a person has Alzheimer's does not mean that they should be treated the same as any other patient.

I am very sorry that you felt your aunt’s care is less than satisfactory.

This is not the care we normally provide as our aim is to provide a high standard of care to all of our patients.

I totally understand that this experience has the family feeling very frustrated and upset.

Your concerns do warrant further investigation but whilst your contact remains anonymous this is difficult to investigate.

You have not stated what ward your aunt is currently in but we do value your feedback and I will share this with the relevant senior staff who are in charge of the wards

If you are unhappy with the care or treatment that your aunt is receiving you have the right to complain.

The PALS team (Patient Advice and Liaison Service) can help you through this process or put you in touch with the senior staff members who may be able to discuss your concerns with you.
