"Heart attack"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology

(as the patient),

I had went to my GP to tell him that I was suffering from chest pains and breathlessness that had started 3weeks earlier after lifting a heavy carpet on my own the GP sent me up to hospital where bloods taken and ecg after second result came back there was a slight show of what ever they look for but not enough to do anything about it.

I was sent home at 1. 15am in the morning the following day the hospital phoned first thing to return for treadmill when I got there the nurses were very friendly and chaty so in the conversation I had said that up to 3weeks ago I had been very active, I pan for gold so work very hard in the rivers I am very fit looking for my age. Now this is where Bernadette showed her expertise working with patients,  she asked for me to be given a ultra sound before attempting the treadmill.  The nurse who done it studied the screen and saw the damage done by heart attack I had 2 stents put in and returned home after 4weeks.

I had appointment to see Faye the recovery nurse got a ecg Faye showed me the results said really good then she quizzed me on how I was feeling told her had a couple of slight chest pains nothing to worry about I thought maybe muscles, she asked the cardiology dept if any chance of treadmill test thanks to them again got me in I only lasted 6min before I had a angina attack glad it happened there.

I have to return later as doctor wants to look inside to see what can be done now sorry if I have went on to much but I cannot praise the cardiology Dept enough very very professional and caring to their patients thanks for looking after me.

Dear pirate

Thank you very much for sharing your story on Patient Opinion. I am sure this would have been a worrying time for you and I am very pleased to hear that you received the required treatment and that further follow up has been arranged.

Thank you specifically for taking the time to compliment the staff within the cardiology department who managed your care. We endeavor to provide a person centered approach to care and this includes showing care, compassion and support to all our patients. I will ensure feedback is provided to Bernadette, Faye and the rest of the cardiology team.

Kind Regards

Anne Leitch
