My nearly 3 year old hurt his leg on the trampoline at the Life Centre in Plymouth. A medic there checked his leg and said it wasn't broken but if I had any concerns to go to the minor injuries unit at the Cumberland Centre in Devonport, Plymouth. I went and asked for an X-ray. I was concerned because he was more upset than usual and I'm familiar with his reaction when he really hurts himself.
The nurse at the cumberland centre gave my son some ibuprofen and told us to wait 40 minutes. Then she called us back in and checked his leg. Her words were that she was certain the injury was not skeletal but muscular, possibly a ligament or tendon. She said there was no need to X-ray as it wasn't broken but if my son wasn't running around by the morning, to go to accident and emergency at Derriford Hospital.
My son woke up screaming in agony again in the morning, after giving him regular doses of ibuprofen and paracetamol throughout the night. I took him to Derriford and they sent him straight to the Xray department. His tibia was broken clean through. I was really upset, as I could have got something done about it the day before, if I had been given the correct information. I'm still upset about it now.
