"Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic"

About: Leicester Royal Infirmary

So, story starts with 3rd mc December 2015, now July and I am still waiting to be seen by another human being! Repeat HCG tests, December 2015/January 2016 and levels although falling slowly, confirmed another miscarriage. Referral did not come and GP called in March as LRI had not been able to contact me to discuss last HCG test. Shortly after a lovely impersonal pack of some 20 blood test forms arrived with a stock print out of instructions and a promise of an appointment once my results had been received by the clinic. April 27th, I arrive in the maternity blood unit to share a table with 2 couples cooing over their scan pictures of their expectant bundle whilst I sat clutching a desperate wad of test forms. Fast forward 5 weeks, waiting for my appointment when a letter dropped on the mat, my appointment....no! Another stock print out and another blood test form requesting a repeat Lupus Anticoagulant test. Again I rock up to the maternity blood test unit, this time thankfully empty because it is closed...holding back tears I ask the receptionist if I can have the test elsewhere and low and behold I can...in another part of the hospital and away from the surroundings of successful pregnancies. That was 5 weeks ago and yesterday I received another print out requesting another repeat Lupus Anticoagulant blood test! I called the unit this morning to ask why and was told "I don't know, I only send out the letters" I asked to be put through to someone who could tell me why and as I have not yet been seen by a consultant there is no one to ask! The person I was speaking to then proceeded to tell me that I also needed a repeat HCG test - a pregnancy test!

And I need to have all of my blood tests before I can be given an appointment. This is a shambles! 7 months into my RMC journey and no one can tell me where it ends. How many more blood tests? Why so many repeats? When will a real person want to speak to me? I have not been asked about medical history and I have pre-existing conditions that will affect pregnancy and my blood test results! How many women crack under this pressure? It is a disgrace!

Dear Reviewer,

Thank you for taking to post your feedback.

We're really sorry to hear what you have been through as this must have been a very distressing and difficult time. We also apologise that the service provided at the Royal was unsatisfactory. We would like to look into this in more detail, so if you are happy for us to do so, please email Rachelle Bowden, Matron in Gynaecology: rachelle.bowden@uhl-tr.nhs.uk, so we can investigate further and resolve this matter.

Kind regards,

Communications Team,

Leicester's Hospitals
