"Tonsillectomy"

About: Wycombe Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

This is content from an email I sent to my mother, the day after my op.

Have to say - Nhs is Blumming amazing. I was so well looked after yesterday- had a whole ward to myself. I was first patient in at 9am - out by 12, And was checked up on by anaesthetists, surgeons and a registrar and looked after by 2 fantastic nurses. They were a bit alarmed when my heart rate dipped but I told them I'm really fit and it's a family trait! Also am a shallow breather.... Remember to breathe! !

Apart from slightly woozy... I slept for hours - until 5pm when husband came to collect me. He wheeled me out in wheelchair bless him.

They reckon 2 weeks for proper recovery - and that the pain starts when the drugs wear off! but for now feel fine, throat scratchy and looks foul - but hopefully this will be well worth it - and stop me getting tonsillitis and other nonsense so often and for so long!

Dear KATAG

Thank you for sharing your personal email to your mother on this site, discussing your recent Tonsillectomy procedure at Wycombe Hospital.

It is pleasing to learn from your message that you felt you were so well looked after by all the teams involved in your care. It is also reassuring to hear that you were able to have a good sleep on the ward before you were discharged home. I will ensure your positive comments are passed on to the department, for the recognition and encouragement of their staff.

I hope you continue to make a good recovery.

Thank you for your response. Please do pass on my thanks and appreciation to the team involved. At every level. It was as good as it gets - despite the pain!

Fully recovered now. Vastly improved quality of life as a result of a brilliantly executed operation. Impressed and thankful.

Best wishes
