"Eye care"

About: Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

I have been a patient in the eye clinic for some years. The accommodation is inadequate with the clinic reception being some distance from the consulting rooms and the other side of the main hospital entrance. Patients have to cross streams of other patients and visitors, ambulance/ transport staff and those visiting the League of friends cafe, which is jumbled into the same area. Staff have to compete with the noise to call patients. The narrow corridor the other side of the entrance is totally unsuitable for the numbers and for anyone with mobility difficulties, especially wheelchair users. The demand is very high and clinics are always busy, appointments are often not sent when planned and facilities for particular (but not uncommon) conditions are not available. There is an urgent need for improvement in the administration and in the environment in which clinical staff have to work.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback with regards to the eye clinics at the Royal Shrewsbury.

There is on-going work within the department to improve the service that is provided and this includes the location and facilities for the clinic. I will pass your comments onto the Operational Management team for the Ophthalmology Service to add to this work.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback to us.

Kind Regards,

Patient Experience Team
