My daughter has a five and a half week old baby who attended x-ray department to have an ultrasound scan carried out on her hips as she was born breach. My daughter fed her baby in the car prior to appointment to settle her but during the procedure baby started crying. A member of staff asked her to give her baby a dummy tit but baby has never had one. My daughter had to try and feed her baby again and was shown into a public toilet. A few minutes later staff knocked on the toilet door to ask her to come and get the ultrasound done before she had adequate time to feed baby.

My daughter was upset as her baby still didnt settle and she was told she should have fed her baby before appointment which she had done. My daughter was also informed by the member of staff she thought that all future appointment letters to mothers of babies should inform them they must feed before such appointments. No empathy was shown at any time towards her or her baby, she felt totally unsupported and she left the x-ray department in tears.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your daughters recent experience. I was very sorry to read your post which I have shared with staff in the department.

We have discussed the issues that you have raised and how we can improve patient experience within the department.

We would like to apologise that your daughter was shown to a public toilet to feed the baby, there are facilities available within the hospital for parents to use, unfortunately they are not within the x-ray department.

Since receiving your posting, as a department we have discussed what facilities we can provide within the x-ray department for parents who wish to feed their baby, to ensure parents are given dignity, privacy and time. We now have in place a number of options available to parents when they need to feed their baby.

I would like to convey our apologies to your daughter once again and hope the she and her baby are both doing well.
