"waiting too long for CBT"

About: Trafford PCT / Primary care mental health service

(as the patient),

I have been waiting for CBT therapy since august 2008 and i feel the service has let me down badly

my GP has been great but the mental health team and the way they deliver is, in my opinion, at best dismal.

I have asked for help i need real help i need somewhere to go to get stable but all i am told is if i go into crisis go to A&E its not good enough, to me it feels like a prison sentence

I NEED HELP and to be told to go to A&E is no good to me and as time goes on I'm losing the will to live

Response – from Ric Taylor, Mental Health Commissioner, NHS Trafford

I am so sorry to hear that you are unhappy with the length of time you have been waiting for CBT therapy in Trafford, however, I would like to reassure you that we are working hard with our healthcare providers to ensure that waiting times are brought down as quickly as possible.

Without knowing your particular circumstances, it is difficult to respond to your concerns in detail, so I would be more than happy to talk to you personally so I can be of more specific help. (My contact details are listed below.)

In the meantime I would encourage you to have a look at this website (http://www.traffordwellbeing.org.uk), which will allow you to refer yourself to our ‘low intensity’ psychological therapy service, which may be able to offer you advice and support. For example, this service delivers what is known as CCBT; an on line cognitive behavioural therapy. You may find this useful either as a support to you as you wait for therapy or indeed, as roughly 50% of people find, as a means of supporting your recovery.

Once again, I apologise for the length of time you have had to wait to receive this care, but do get in touch with me so we discuss your case further.
