my grandfather has suffered with depression for a number of years and since my grandmother started showing signs of memory loss his condition worsened. He fell into a trap of drinking alcohol to help him cope and this in turn made the depression worse.
We eventually had to contact the Gp team at Huntly on the advice of the fantastic district nursing team who has already met him, little did we know this would be the turning point for him. Dr sillcox came out to the house and spoke to him with empathy and compassion. Persuaded him to be admitted to deal with not only the alcohol dependency but my granny's worsening condition, which until then he had chosen to ignore. He was admitted to rothieden where he received 12 days of superb care, support and food! And after 6 weeks at home, a change of medication and a couple of blips, one of which we must thank dr Miller for his compassion, life is returning to normal and he says the "beast" which he calls his depression is lessening its grip on him.
The team at Huntly have also started the diagnosis process for my grandmother and put us in touch with multiple agencies to support them in the future. We were a family who were sinking and despite oceans of love sometimes a team of professionals is what is required!
Too often health care professionals are criticised for what goes wrong. So well done and thank you to the entire team at Huntly you are amazing!
